Graduate Student Life

Penn has developed many initiatives to support a vibrant graduate student community and enhance work-life balance for graduate students.

Since 2001, Penn has operated a highly successful Graduate Student Center: The Center provides more than 400 activities/year designed specifically for grad students. The Center also brings together all the campus resources that help our graduate students be successful and healthy at Penn. The Grad Center is located at 3615 Locust Walk. During the academic year, it is open Monday-Thursday 9AM-8PM; Friday 9AM-6PM; Saturday-Sunday 12PM-6PM. Contact the Grad Center at gradcenter@upenn.edu.

The Grad Center and schools provide comprehensive new graduate student orientation, including pre-arrival online information sessions. See photos from the 2018 orientation program.

The University also supports a wide range of grad student cultural and affinity groups.

The University works closely with The Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA), providing resources for travel grants, research support, and other activities, including GradFest, a week-long, University-wide, community-building celebration for all grad students.

GAPSA meets regularly with the President, Provost, and other university leaders. Grad students are also represented on university-wide committees and as liaisons to trustee committees. Learn more about participating in committees.
